Citalopram weight gain - 7 months postpartum

Hello,
I have been on citalopram for general anxiety for 18 months. Initially 20mg but increased to 30mg after my Dad passed away when pregnant last April. I had my baby in May and my weight has been increasing ever since, made worse by a particularly long recovery after complications from a c section. But I now weigh more than I did when 9 months pregnant and the heaviest in my life Shock Needless to say I feel like crap!

I am getting married in August so naturally that is giving me the extra motivation to sort my weight out. I have slowly started reducing my dosage to get back to the 20mg dose. I’m eating healthily and trying to exercise more.

Has anyone experienced weight gain on citalopram? If so, any advice? If you stopped taking citalopram due to weight gain as a side effect, did you lose the weight you gained?

Hi there @Irishmummy90
Just quickly coming in, I always put weight on with sertraline/citalopram, and lost it again!
You have a lot on your plate, along with grief. A new baby and an up and coming wedding.
You are doing the right thing, be gentle with yourself and exercise/eat well, but don't beat yourself up about the weight gain, your mental health comes first, weight goes on/comes off, but look after yourself.
I'm sure you will look beautiful at your wedding even with some extra pounds, much love Thanks

Thank you for your kind message. You’re totally right and it’s comforting to hear you always lost the weight when you came off them. Thanks again ❤️
