Raised prolactin levels

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of raised prolactin levels.

I missed my period for 3 months and they’d never been regular before then either but no where near as bad as that.

I had a blood test about 3 months ago and it showed the level was raised but didn’t tell me then what it was. The nurse just said something was raised.

I had a blood test a month later and the prolactin was even higher. But no idea by how much. Nor did I know it was prolactin.

Then after I had the results from the second blood test, I had a phone call with my psychiatrist, who said my prolactin levels were raised. And to think about another anti psychotic (aripiprazole), to see if a low dose would reduce the prolactin. Currently on 18mg haloperidol.

After my discussion with my psychiatrist today he’s adding 5mg of aripiprazole to my prescription and to test again after I’ve taken it for two weeks.

Anyone got any experience of doing this or just general raised prolactin levels.

Hello! I have raised prolactin levels at the moment, but got diagnosed with an underactive thyroid in November. The doctor suggested that mine may be raised due to the other hormonal imbalances and that the medication may resolve the issue. I will take a blood test again later this month and go from there.

I have read a lot about raised prolactin as I was worried, but found it is surprisingly common. I’m sure someone will come along who has more experience but just wanted to tell you that you’re not alone and to not worry too much. X

I had raised prolactin levels due to the antipsychotic risperidone. I was put on 5mg of aripiprazole and it has successfully lowered the level for me. Hope it works for you too.

Thanks guys.

Hopefully aripiprazole will work for me too.
