ADHD diagnosis

Hi all, I hope I’m posting in the right area.

I was hoping someone with adult ADHD could advise me of their experience in getting their diagnosis. I am absolutely certain I have ADHD, but when I previously contacted my GP (around 6m ago), an emergency care practitioner said it sounded more like stress, & didn’t take it any further.

I now realise that they cannot tell me I don’t have it, as they are not qualified to do so, but I don’t have any ‘proof’ to back up why I feel I have ADHD. I would only be repeating what I told the ECP if I insisted on speaking with a GP. Do you have to supply some sort of proof?

Apologies if I come across as rambling Blush

I was diagnosed in April this year. I filled out a screening questionnaire for adhd and emailed it to my gp surgery along with an email I got from the psychiatry UK website informing them that I would like to be referred to psychiatry UK under the right to choose scheme. There are loads of companies doing right to choose now, so I'd definitely have a Google and see which is accepting new referrals.

Thank you @romdowa, that’s really helpful. I will do that. Have things improved for you since your diagnosis?

Old school reports can be very useful evidence- if you can get your hands on them.

Thank you @Burnshersmurfs. I’ll ask my mum (I don’t have them), although I’m not convinced she would’ve kept them. They would be very handy though, as I’m pretty sure there would be reference to me ‘not concentrating’ on them.
