Addicted to my bed

Hi all

I have been on anti depressants on and off since I was a teen (now 37)
I have also always loved just going away to bed ASAP after tea, at same time as the kids, or if I’m not working I’d quite happily stay in bed during the day. I’m only just starting to realise that it’s not normal and I should be up spending time with DP in the evening. I have been trying to refrain from going and getting pyjamas on and going away upstairs but I just get agitated and worried I won’t get enough sleep!
Any tips on how to break this habit please?

Thanks in advance.

How is your depression at the moment? Could this ‘safe place’ be a major symptom of your medication not working right?

Thank you for your comments. It’s hard to tell as I am also currently 18 weeks pregnant and myself, DP and our kids are so happy and excited. I have been quite emotional at times which is quite draining but would put that down to hormones!
I am also even more tired due to my pregnancy so it may be more difficult to break the habit.

I also feel if I wasn’t in bed so early in the evenings I wouldn’t be awake at this hour, then by night exhausted again, it’s a vicious circle!

I think I need a new routine but don’t know how or where to start. 🤦‍♀️

It’s only normal when pregnant to want to get more rest and being in bed is fine. Listen to your body. ESP if you have other kids. You need to take care of yourself. I have 3 kids and also like to spend evenings in bed once I get the youngest down by 8pm. I read, look online, chat with the older two kids who also like to join me. Snuggle the dog who also likes to join in 😀

Do you do it in summer too? I love my bed at this time of year as I think it's natural to want to hibernate but stay up later and get up earlier when nights and mornings are lighter.

Could you perhaps get changed into PJs when kids go to be but then go and relax and cozy down in living room with your DP in the evening so at least you are outside bed and bedroom? Maybe try just staying downstairs for say an hour later than you would do normally might be a start. Also try and make sure that your living room/kitchen is a relaxing space, difficult with small kids but if kids clutter can be stuffed in box/cupboard/under sofa that might help
