Anxiety and CBT.

Morning all,

I’ve always had low level anxiety and have been on Propanolol for about 6 months and take 10mg twice a day.

Over the last few months my anxiety levels have escalated to the point where I’m in a low level state of panic all day, most days.

I’ve got a lot of external stress going on in my life at the moment which I’m sure is contributing to my already existing anxiety which is focused around a chronic condition I have.

The last few weeks have been particularly bad to the point where I just burst into tears to one of colleagues yesterday and it all came out. She was brilliant and so very supportive.

She said that I need to ring my GP and ask for a referral for me to “talk to someone” as she thinks that if I don’t professionally address the anxiety then it’s only going to get worse and that’s absolutely not what I want.

I rang my GP Surgery this morning to book an appointment and a doctor is going to call me back this afternoon.

I’m guessing the first route that will be suggested is CBT so I’m just curious as to whether anyone else has tried this for anxiety and how they found it?

Thank you.

Thank you Catmummy,

When I went to see my GP he very quickly went down the route of discussing anti-depressants but after we spoke for a while he said I didn’t need them and that talking therapy would be much more beneficial for me.

He also advised I self refer using the Healthy Minds website, which I did, so now it’s just a case of waiting to hear from them.
