Can anyone please help as I'm at a lose as where to turn I've been on sertraline 50mg for 2 weeks after being switched from chlompramine which I was on for 27 years on doctors advice, thing is this weekend my anxiety levels have heightened and my phobia of choking has come back with a vengeance, I've spoken with my gp today who said this is pretty normal and should settle again in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any experience of this?

The first few weeks of sertraline are bloody difficult I had all sorts of weird symptoms but they do settle down

katmarie · 06/12/2021 21:31

I have that whenever I start on sertraline , it does settle after a couple of weeks, you just need to give it time to work.

I started sertraline in Oct and it made my anxiety worse before I felt better. It doesn’t last too long though and after a few weeks you should start to feel better.

@SexyNeckbeard so this is normal then as I'm petrified I'm going backwards, how long did it take for it to ease? Thanks for answering

@Curiouserandcuriouser1 thank you I've had to phone in sick today as I'm scared to leave the house the way I'm feeling

Oh love - it does settle down but it is scary to hear it gets a bit worse before it starts working. Two weeks in you should be about to be over the hump and the healing can begin 🙂 What I found really helped was to keep a diary of symptoms. That way I could track my day-by-day improvement after those first couple of weeks. But yes I wished I could just hibernate for those days. I’ve been on sertraline for years now. Best thing I ever did. ❤️ Do you have the runs? I did at first but that soon subsided too. Be kind to yourself xxxx

FreddyP · 06/12/2021 22:12

@Dontfuckingsaycheese yes I've had the runs but my anxiety has gone dreadful since Friday and I'm 2 weeks in today but the doctor said it could take another couple of weeks to help I'm just so worried, thank you for your kind words xx

Yes it could take another couple of weeks as your doctor says. Keeping a diary is a good idea then you will notice when it start to make a difference

@SexyNeckbeard thank you just needed extra reassurance as I don't want to stop taking them at this point
