Sertraline Day 4

Hi, first time user of medication.

Taken the plunge after 20 years of bad anxiety.

It was already skyhigh before taking sertraline, but since taking it, my anxiety has rocketed, almost feeling like I'm having a panic attack. Heart is racing, very sweaty, can't sleep at night.....

Someone please reassure me this will pass? 🙏🏽

I've been taking sertraljne for my anxiety for the last 7 years. Everyone reacts differently to different drugs. I remember when I started sertraline, the main side effects were that I felt very very tired and would fall asleep all the time. This didn't last long. And I felt less anxious within a week.

What dose are you on?

Anx85 · 25/11/2021 21:02

@itsnotover I'm on 50mg, which I take in the morning after breakfast. Felt a little nauseous but that's not been too bad. It's just the actual anxiety itself is so high, and I can't sleep at night because of it. Exhausted today 😔

I started on 50 first time I took it OP it made me feel like o was dying, horrendous sickness bleeding gums etc,
Came off as I was scared,

This happened to me. It will pass. I'd been on it before and felt ok. Came off it then Covid and lockdown happened so I went back on it. Only 25mg but it really made me a million times worse. I had to call 111 as I spent the whole day crying and staring at the wall. It did pass. Please hang in there.

You might need to go with it for a couple of weeks (sorry!)
I've not taken sertraline, but have experience of citalopram. I found that for the first two weeks I maybe felt a little worse than I did before, but after that it definitely had a positive effect. I suspect it may be the same for you.
I hope it works out for you.

I’ve been on it 4 years and it really helps me. I take my tablet just before bed, maybe that will help?

I’ve seen other people be prescribed a low dose of Valium for the first few weeks to help with the side effects.

I hope they pass soon and you start to feel the benefits!

Does anyone know the best time to take this?

Anx85 · 25/11/2021 21:26

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Will just stick at it 🙏🏽

My first 2 weeks were awful just in a complete daze feeling so anxious/nauseous/headache/weird - then it just got better, now I feel great most of the time no more stomach churning anxiety. Stick with it, it's worth it Daffodil

PlanDeRaccordement · 25/11/2021 21:46

Sertraline did not work for me. I was prescribed it for PTSD. It made me constantly nauseous and I was on the toilet constantly with upset stomach and bowels. After the mandatory two month wait for side effects to calm down (they did not), my consultant agreed to switch medications.

@Vicsstick good to hear you are feeling great from them X

@PlanDeRaccordement I also suffer with PTSD.....hope the new meds are working?
