Dealing with bereavement work and benefits

I lost my dad recently and it has hit me hard and my mental health is really bad and I feel I need to be signed off work for a few weeks to deal with everything that's happened and start to process it.

My problem is I'm agency work, so I don't believe I can be signed off work and paid. I'm happy to leave and accept the lose of wage and manage short term on UC. I get UC as I'm a single parents and not sure if I will get my benefits stopped as I decided to leave.

Going back to my job after a period of absence isn't an option as they will need to replace me ASAP and I'm certain they would do that as they have shown no loyalty to me. I also believe my job is also really effecting my mental health as they've been awful to work for. I don't believe I'll have any issues finding another job in a few weeks time when I'm in a better headspace.

Your uc won’t get stopped but they will expect you to be looking for work and to meet commitments

You can still be signed off sick but will not be paid you might be able to claim esa however they do take that payment into account with your universal credit.
