Please can anyone help me find a child psychiatrist in North/North West/ Central London who isn't charging £750 for the first session and can help me to help my 14 year old daughter who is suffering with depression following the death of my mother and subsequent family trauma.

We are not in London but we found help through our GP who pointed us to a charity that offers counseling and psychiatry for teens at a reduced cost - we were struggling to afford to charges most private services quoted.

GP, Young Minds, any other youth mental health organisations / services, CAMHS or the school might all have ideas local to you? Good luck.

Not what you asked for but there is the Kooth app too so she can get instant support whenever she needs it. Might help while you find one.

Does she need a psychiatrist? They usually deal more with mental illnesses that need medication.

Or is it a psychologist that you are considering? What kind of help do you think she needs? Meds or more along the lines of counselling or psychotherapy?

I've been to both and honestly the psychiatrist was very nice but couldn't really help me much other than prescribe me the heavy duty antidepressants.

My counsellor (now a qualified psychotherapist as he has finished his degree but was a counsellor when we started) has been the most helpful by far.

He had no PhD at the time just college qualifications and personal experience with depression but he is the one who has pulled me through, time and time again. Even called me from home one evening to make sure I was coping after having a shit week and then having to put my beloved little hamster to sleep.

Dr Lisa Honeyman is based in north London and is genuinely excellent. I’m not sure of her costs, but she’s generally recommended by all the local schools.
