Mirtazapine

I was on mirtazapine for a long time, around 5 years, and felt good on it. I came off it last March and have been fine until the last few months where I've had a lot of stress and anxiety (work, house move, etc). I have been signed off work and I asked to go back on it and have been for a week. I know it won't have kicked in to improve my mood yet but I feel exhausted all the time now. I have less time for my DP and kids, I'm cranky, and I feel so tired around 3/4pm.
I can't tell whether it's making me feel worse or better.
Should I stick at it for another few weeks or ask to try something else? It's the exhaustion that is killing me at the moment. I can't imagine going back to work and feeling like this as my job is fairly physical. I know a 12 hour shift might finish me off.

What time do you take it?

flashpaper · 12/11/2021 11:19

Before I go to bed. It's definitely helped me sleep at least.

Stick at it for a few more weeks. What dose are you on? It tends to be more sedating at a lower dose.

RunnerDown · 12/11/2021 11:25

Keep going. The sedating side effects usually wear off. What dose are you on. It’s counter intuitive but 15 mg is said to be more sedating than 30 mg. are on on a different dose now compared to previously.

I'm on 30mg now. I was on 30mg for most of the time but for a short while on 45mg when I took it in the past. I've never felt like a zombie when on it before but now I feel dreadful.

@flashpaper

Hi OP I know this thread is a bit old now but I wondered how you are feeling on mirtazapine since your last post?

I was on it for 2 months for insomnia and anxiety but it made me feel very low and started causing me debilitating joint pain everywhere so I have just had come off it cold turkey (told my GP who didn’t seem concerned with the CT approach).

The withdrawal is horrendous! Have been pretty much housebound and bedbound with a combination of the pain the med has caused in my feet and the insomnia, nausea, shakes etc caused by the withdrawal.

It’s one nasty drug!

Might work well and cause no problems for many but it clearly hasn’t agreed with me!
