Anxiety crisis in the middle of moving house, can't cope

I feel like I'm imploding, I can't sleep, I can't eat, I feel constantly sick and like I'm vibrating with anxiety and can't stop crying.

We're in the middle of moving house, we've moved some bits already and removals are coming today. I hate the new house, I feel like we're making a mistake.

Should I try and get a GP appointment? Is there anything they can do for anxiety? I am on venlafaxine so maybe they will suggest increasing the dose? I keep having suicidal thoughts and I'm so scared

Absolutely call your GP - your anxiety sounds through the roof. Have you got someone you can tell about your suicidal thoughts? Please prioritise your health OP. The movers can get on with the packing, but you need an emergency appointment this morning Flowers

Tell us a bit about the move, why do you hate the house?

Definitely call the doctor, or go straight to A and E x

I have been through some really stressful situations in the past few years and coped ok with them, but moving house a few months ago nearly broke me. It was seriously the most stressful thing I've been through. So try and go easy on yourself. For me it was such an overwhelming experience and i found it really difficult dealing with all the stuff. I seriously felt like I was close to having a breakdown and I've never felt like that before.

Moving house is the most stressful thing I've ever been through! You can try to contact your gp but if you are fully moving out today probably not worth it. You have to move whether you hate the house or not so you need to recognise that. From there give yourself a set period eg 6 months and if you still hate it then you can decide what to do. I know tour head will be fit to burst but theres simply nothing you can do except try to take control of your emotions today.

Did you feel you hated the new house a fortnight ago or has this started because you’re moving and your anxious.

Moving is horrid but it will be done soon. Try to do one thing at a time, then the next and then the next etc.

Do you have children to deal with or can your partner take charge

What is it about the new house that you hate?

What was it about the new house that you loved enough to decide to buy it?

Crisispoint21 · 25/10/2021 08:56

It's rented so im reminding myself if I'm still not liking it after a year we can move again and it's not the end of the world.

I think it's the smell getting to me... It just smells horrible and damp. I don't know how we didn't notice before. I have a panic attack every time I walk in.

I think I've been feeling low level anxious for months and I've just tipped over the edge. I feel ashamed and useless.

OK. So get practical and buy a dehumidifier - that will sort the damp. If you like flowers or candles then treat yourself to make the house smell nice.

When you feel the anxiety getting on top of you try to help your body to relax. The can also help you get things into perspective. And remember that moving is stressful so cut yourself some slack.

I was in exactly same position as you 6 weeks ago but my move is due to divorce so feel like we’re being ripped from our home. I honestly thought I was having a breakdown, I’ve lost well over a stone in weight and not sleeping. Doctor has been great and I’ve started sertraline and starting to feel a bit better

Crisispoint21 · 26/10/2021 10:36

Thank-you for you advice everyone. No kids, so DP suggested I go over to my mums for a few hours while he supervised the removals men.

Had a GP phone appointment and he's put me on propranolol.

Felt marginally better this morning until the postman knocked on the door and it was loud and Ive been in a state of panic ever since. I don't know what to do

Do you have company or something that needs to be done. Distraction can be very useful.

Sarahlou63 · 26/10/2021 11:38

Did you have a look at the videos I mentioned? They will help.

Yes, they are both very helpful, I don't think I even realise when I'm hyperventilating.

I think I'm realising that an anxiety crisis has been in the pipeline for a long time but I hadn't noticed the warning signs and just tried to stubbornly power through.
