I feel very strange. I'm on antipsychotics and am not sure if it's the medication and side effects or what is happening. I feel as though I'm not in my body but I'm distanced from myself. I'm on olanzapine and am waiting for the community mental health team to contact me. I'm continuing to take the medication - I don't know what to do in the meantime. Any advice?

I'm sorry you didn't get any responses this afternoon. I hope you're okay.

Thanks. I'm currently looking up various medications and side effects to see if this is a known side effect. I think I may have to change to a different medication if this continues. I'm so fed up.

Hey, I get this sometimes, I'm not on medication but it happens after prolonged periods of stress. It's possible it's a side effect too; I hope that you get it sorted. I used to find it frightening but not so much these days. Xx

Hello,

I've experienced this before in secondary school. I had it for around nine months after a vaccination, which is quite the reaction! In your case it might be a side effect. You just need to understand that whilst it may be quite scary, it's just your brain's reaction to something, and this distanced feeling will go away eventually. For me, I found that by not thinking about it but rather, carrying on as normal had helped bring me back into my body.

I experience this a lot due to past trauma. I feel for you because it’s not pleasant. Sometime getting fresh air helps, so going for a walk. Or
a warm drink - maybe the change of temperature. Sometimes I have to just sleep it off. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks to everyone who responded to this it made a big difference to how I was feeling. I need to be less hard on myself. I expect to be normal and functioning and getting through the day is hard. I just don't know what to do, I'm bobbing along just trying to keep my head above water.
