Hi. I have horrendously bad anxiety that is making me very unwell.

My GP has given me diazepam today.

It's for short term use but what are your thoughts on this?

Has anyone else taken it?

I was given it for back spasms....years ago...made me feel very floaty and relaxed....it was actually very nice.....until I came off them....became very emotional and tearful...i took them for about 6 months until i saw osteopath and took up yoga which cleared my back issues....i dont think they are given for long periods now as very addictive.

I was prescribed then for back spasms too but I also suffer from anxiety. I'd never taken them before the back issue but was aware of their addictive nature.

I personally wouldn't take them on a regular basis because of the addictive side but I find them an absolute godsend for a particularly stressful time, they totally chill me out and have more of an effect because I don't take them regularly. You didn't ask but in case it was relevant to you, I definitely wouldn't attempt to drive if I'd taken one in the past 12 hours.

I have had it during very awful anxiety times. I found it helpful as it would slow down my thinking to a state where I could do things to help myself…like sit still and do colouring/watch TV/craft. I usually tried all the other things first and diazepam was the last option. It can be a useful tool if you use it with caution and try and use the time you are taking it to put coping strategies in place, and/or a longer term anti anxiety medication/medication increase
