Low self worth

Due to a long period of relatively severe abuse, my self-esteem seems to be at rock bottom. This is making everything feel rather hopeless.

I go to therapy and we are going to talk about this, but I was wondering what others have done to help change their thought patterns. I’ve heard of changing/stopping negative thoughts, by replacing them with positives ones. But that’s easier said than done!

Thanks in advance!

Have a read of this article;

www.betterrelationships.org.au/well-being/core-beliefs-self-acceptance/

It would be a good basis for a discussion with your therapist.

Kristen Neffner on YouTube has some brilliant things to say about self compassion and it is working for me in terms of self care and kindness. One thing that I have found very useful is having a treat to look forward to in the morning, perhaps new shower gel, something new to wear or anything that works. It helps me to get up and get started. Hope it works out for you, take care. You have obviously been through enough, put some energy into helping yourself to feel good.

@Sarahlou63

That article was a great read. Now you say it I’m sure my therapist mentioned the word core belief during our session this week. I’ll certainly be following that up. The activities look useful too.

I’ll have a look at her on YouTube. I love watching inspirational people - so that sounds great. That’s a good idea about something to look forward to. Thank you.
