Anyone awake?

I'm super crazy upset and could do with a chat. Trying to stop crying enough to call samaritans. I don't want to feel like this- crying, overwhelmed and claustrophobic.

Aw go ahead and cry if you need to. Do you have a hot drink?

I'm awake op. Can you open a window and try and breathe in and out slowly a few times to help with the claustrophobic panicky feeling?

I am awake for a bit if you want to chat.

If you're not feeling up to talking, could you give texting Shout a try? I've found them pretty responsive, usually.

Thinking of you, I’ve been there. Some things I found helped enough to get through till I could get help:
Breathe. Deep breathing helps calm you. Focus on evenly inhaling and exhaling. This will help slow down and re-center your mind.
Practice the 3-3-3 rule. Look around and name three things you see. Then, name three sounds you hear. Finally, move three parts of your body—your ankle, arm and fingers. Whenever your brain starts to race, this trick can help bring you back to the present moment.
Do something. Stretch, take a walk, drink a glass of water, organize the files on your desk—take any action that interrupts your train of thought to help you regain a sense of control.

Thank you that's really helpful. I managed to distract myself reading a Piers Morgan column of all things. I think I'm depressed. I'm a bit scared to call samaritans in case they don't answer. I don't know what to say either. Maybe I will try and sleep for a bit. I'm worried I will cry and panic if I try and sleep though.

Flowers OP Going through something similar. Ring the Samaritans if you need to. They will be very patient and understand if you are crying.

Ribblechips · 14/09/2021 08:44

How are you this morning MistySkiesAfterRain and MercyBooth? I hope you are both feeling slightly calmer this morning and managed to get a bit of sleep.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 14/09/2021 11:04

Thanks @Ribblechips you are really kind. I could not get through to samaritans but I called my work programme. They were really helpful.

I decided to make one positive change which will tick a lot of the boxes of what is missing and I can do it immediately.

That sounds really good Mistyskies (although not good about Samaritans obviously; there's a lot of people saying "reach out" for help in response to mh issues - and not enough people or resources there, when you do). I am happy to hear that your work are able to offer support though. And great about the one, positive change. Good luck with it Flowers
