I have been on citalopram for about 2 years and have had side effects ever since i went on them. I've had enough of them now so i tapered my dosage down for weeks and weeks so i was taking 10 mg a day (down from 30 at the highest point) and stopped them altogether a week or two ago. I thought tapering would help me avoid withdrawal but I'm having really bad dizzy spells lasting all day, insomnia and nausea. I can't drive as don't feel safe to with the dizziness.

Anyone else had withdrawal symptoms? How long did they last?

My taper on meds has always had to be really slow.
So from 30mg I would have gone
Day 1 30mg
Day 2 25mg
Day 3 30mg
Day 4 25mg
Day 5 25mg
Day 6 25mg
Day 7 20 mg
Day 8 25mg
Day 9 20mg
Day 10 20mg
Day 11 20mg
Day 12 15mg
Day 13 20mg
Day 14 15mg
Day 16 20mg
Day 17 15mg
Day 18 15mg
Day 19 15mg
Day 20 10mg
Day 21 15mg
Day 22 10mg
Day 23 10mg
Day 24 10mg
Day 25 5mg
Day 26 10mg
Day 27 5mg
Day 28 10mg
Day 29 5mg
Day 30 5mg
Day 31 5mg
Day 32 None
Day 33 5mg
Day 34 5mg
Day 35 None
Day 36 5mg
Day 37 None
Day 38 None
Day 39 None
Day 40 None: should be full detoxed and free from side effects

That's basically what I've done in the past with my doctor prescribing the smaller amounts and using a pill cutter to half tablets if necessary. A better taper would be if you could get 1mg tablets and just go down by 1mg at a time.
