Hi - Anyone ever feel like to the outside world they seem like they are doing well , good at life , confident and good at job .
But inside you feel like you are rubbish at everything , take criticism really harshly , feel rubbish at everything and feel like it’s only a matter of time before you get fired because your crap at your job ! Is this like a depression?

Mmm not feeling as confident inside, I get that. Wishing it would hurry up and turn out okay.

Imposter syndrome is very, very common - and you're in good company; famous sufferers include Meryl Streep and Albert Einstein.

Talking about it is one of the quickest and easiest ways of dealing with it. I bet if you mention it to any of your colleagues you'll find many of them feel exactly the same way.

You could also have a look through this guide to cognitive distortions - we all use some or all of them so knowing what they are and how to challenge them is very empowering.

Op you are not alone! Unfortunately I have a horrible colleague who seems to make it her mission to point out every mistake, question everything I do & make me feel crap. After several years of this I have definitely gone from quietly confident to ‘I’m so crap’. She’s actually caused 2 people to leave and one to change departments since I’ve worked with her. All very subtle and sly that I couldn’t possibly make a formal issue out of.

Misty -yep, totally.

@Sarahlou63 that link-wow!
I will make it my bible and work on ways to ‘untwist’ my thinking. It would be great if I could regain some confidence and brush off my colleagues digs and side eye looks.
Thanks!

@Acryforhelp

Ah your colleague sounds awful ! I have a colleague who works in a different department who like to tell people what they are doing wrong and how to do it right . The email will just be between her and myself and then suddenly she starts Cc’ing the world so my boss can see how crap she thinks I am ! I finally snapped today and told her if she has a problem with my work to go through my boss as the constant emails , IM’s and calls are becoming too much . No doubt she will twist it so I am the bad one ! X

@Ahbump
Yours sounds equally awful! At least there are things in writing so you can prove that she is constantly making out you’re crap. Good for you telling her -hopefully she will wind her neck in and let you get on with your job. Well done.
