Private assessment for autism

My dd and I think she may be autistic. She had a telephone appointment with the doctor but they were very dismissive say that if she is she’s obviously very high functioning so it’s not worth it.

I feel it’s worth it as it would explain a lot and she could access additional support at school (quiet rooms, additional time in exams) and would help alleviate her anxiety or feelings that she’s weird.

So because the doctor was so bad I think we might have to go private. Can anyone else who’s done this recommend somewhere or share their experience. Dh not completely on board, I think he agrees with the doctor as in she’ll still have the same struggles, a diagnosis isn’t a cure. I’m not very good at explaining myself and have ended up getting quite upset about it all. I just want to help my baby girl!

Hi - I would do it. I think you need to find somewhere whose assessments are recognised by your LA. We were lucky to go through the NHS. I did a fair amount of reading online and most adults with ASD said they wish they'd have been diagnosed as a child as it would have helped them understand who they were.
Good luck.
