Hey all,

The last few weeks (before I went on a two week holiday to Mallorca) I kept waking up in the middle of the night and seeing ‘things’ in my room. People, animals, weird shapes ect! It would really frighten me until I registered I was still asleep ect.

Anyway I’ve been on holiday the last two weeks and it hasn’t happened once! I got back home yesterday and when I went to sleep again last night it happened again! At least 3 times throughout the night,

I woke up feeling like absolute crap like I normally have pre holiday for the last few week.

I’ve had the fan on since the start of summer I’m wondering if this has something to do with it?

Or is there something else going on? (Unless my flat is haunted lol joking..)

I get this sometimes. I wake suddenly and see things. Often it is gory and disturbing things. Lasts about 20 seconds.
I have mentioned it to MH professionals and they just shrug and say to try and unwind before going to bed.

Are you ok in the day, if you spend a lot of time in the flat? If not, I'd also maybe have a quick check for carbon monoxide.

@BestZebbie I feel okay during the day. I do live in a flat in central London ect.

It just seems to be the only place I wake up feeling awful every morning! Headache, tired and then the weird hallucinations at night here.. I’m going to monitor it. But will look into the carbon monoxide

Hi OP, look up hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations - these sounds like what you're experiencing. To reassure you I have these too, it's nothing to worry about but can definitely be related to your stress levels.

Hey @cakelover12345 thank you for the reply! Much appreciated. I’ll take a look

One of my daughters has hypnopompic hallucinations, although they normally take the form of shapes that then form into a "human" shape, seeing grids and boxes is often feature. She gets them more when stressed. I do think you need to check the carbon monoxide levels as well though!
