Panic attack whilst falling asleep??

Hello, does anyone else get this? I'm dropping off to sleep and then my mind suddenly races and I can only describe it as a mild panic attack. It sort of starts in my head and goes down my body, like all my nerves are raw.

I've had proper panic attacks in the past so have experience of them. I don't get the racing heart with this, which I used to get with full blown panic attacks back in the day. It doesn't happen every night but when it does it can stop me getting to sleep for ages. Does anyone know if this is actually a thing?

I had this, I would start to drift off and then my body would go into flight mode. I would also wake up some nights having a panic attack, scary! My reasons were because I was scared of night time, and even though I thought I was relaxed enough to sleep, my brain had other ideas.

Certainly happens to me.

I figure it's totally normal and understandable. It's the time when you're lying quietly and not being distracted, so naturally all the anxious thoughts you've been suppressing start to surface.
