Hi wanting to know your views I was on 40mg of citalopram and now on 15mg of mirtazapine. From my gp switched my tablets I have been having alit of mental health problems thinking so much about my past which then leaves me so upset and hating myself for even thinking about it all the nightmares are terrible. I am hoping of some good news that they will eventually help. ANY advice is good advice in my opinion xx

Hi Ladycrazy I;m so sorry you are going through these difficulties. It sounds very difficult and exhausting for you.

This is a good starting dose of mirtazapine but may need to be titrated upwards. I expect your GP is using this because of the nightmares. As with all antidepressants they (unfortunately) take a couple to a few weeks to "kick in".

In the meantime have you had any help with self care and mental health?? eg using mindfullness, CBT or apps to help you to live in the moment and stop the ever circling ideas? I know they sound woo but they really help.....can you sing/do craft/art...these also help me anyway.....anything to get out of the head that keeps cycling.

Sorry if any of that was unhelpful or trite...we're all such different beings. I really hope that you find your way through this soon.

Best wishes XX

Thank you for you comment it's definitely helpful I have just started to make a bullet journal and also have wee books that I write something in for kids to give them when they are older

keep going....those sound great and I might steal the children's book idea!!!

Ladycrazy · 16/08/2021 20:37

I never had a great childhood or felt like my parents where proud so I thought it would be a good idea for my kids so they can look and see that they were loved and I am proud of even the little things they do

That's so insightful. And what a lovely way to show them you care.
Perhaps you should write yourself a little book too...of all the things that you are (or should be) proud of and the positive things you can say about yourself and all your accomplishments,

I'll give you one to start ...having insight into how you can boost anothers self esteem,

and another..being brave and seeking help when you need it

and another....being creative in how you interact with your children

xx

I have to go away for a bit so won't be on MN.......just saying 'cos I know it's odd when people step away sometimes!!

i’m a month into taking mirtazapine and things are finally starting to settle for me. i’ve had my dosage increased to 30mg once a day, and i’ve found that i’m sleeping much better and my nightmares are decreased from every night to just once or twice a week. for the first couple of weeks i too felt like the tablets weren’t working as i was still experiencing anxiety when i lay down to go to sleep, but that’s now decreased to a manageable level and my anxiety has decreased in general. i also take propranolol when experiencing panic attacks symptoms and i’m only needing to take them a couple of times a week now instead of every day. hope you’re doing okay, op. sending you a big virtual hug.

I hope I get some kind of normal soon.

Hi @Ladycrazy and @sunshineandshowers21 how are you both doing on the meds? I’ve been on them for 4 weeks now and I’m doing much better! I’m not hungrier, but I don’t feel full like I used to after a big meal, so I end up eating more even though I’m not actually hungry, if that makes sense? Are either of you experiencing something similar?

Vs2914 · 22/11/2021 09:13

@Georgia324 hi I am doing so much better thank you. Yes I was the same but after around 2 months I was just eating as normal

Georgia324 · 22/11/2021 09:50

Hi love, ah that’s great news!! I’m feeling really tired in the mornings, need a strong coffee to get some energy. Did that happen to you too? Are you on 30mg? X

Vs2914 · 23/11/2021 11:10

@ yes I was the same with them always a struggle in the mornings yes I'm on 30mg also

Georgia324 · 23/11/2021 12:02

Thanks @Vs2914! So did that feeling go away after a couple of months?
