Gregorian chanting for anxiety

Just a little share in a hope it will help someone..

I am increasingly finding better coping techniques for my anxiety which is still there but much improved since last year. Haven't had a panic attack for a well over a year and with the help of counselling I am able to stop or slow down my anxiety with a few tricks.

Something that I stumbled across was gregorian chanting music, freely available on youtube. For whatever reason my anxiety tends to creep up on me at night and it seems 10 x worse than during the day. Putting headphones on and listening to this has been very soothing, I don't know why, probably the repitition and tone of the male voices. I also listen to this on public transport when I feel quite stressed.

Worth a go maybe?

I love Gregorian chant, especially plain chant and I agree, it's very calming.

I've often been able to pick CDs up very cheaply in charity shops - I find putting a CD on more relaxing than using a device, although I'm probably a bit old-school in this. Grin

Of you like Gregorian chant (I do) you may like the CD officium. It's by Jan Garberek (spelling?) And the Hilliard chorus.

It's the chanting with Garberek playing the saxophone around the chants. I find it very uplifting
