Cancelled summer holiday - just feeling gutted

That's it really. We were due to go camping. Only trip away in the last year (managed 3 nights camping last summer). My son has just been contact traced from school. We've had to cancel the trip. We were planning to see family whilst we were away too. Can't see them, possibly all summer, now.

This isn't an anti-lockdown post. I'm just feeling really, really low and can't see any pleasure in life right now. I've so fed up of TV, baking, board games. So bored of everything really. I'm just moaning and I know we are lucky to be alive. I was so looking forward to a break though. I've cancelled my AL as I'd rather be at work than sitting looking at my 4 walls again.

I'm sorry op. I'd be gutted too and your son would've really enjoyed it. Couldn't you go after his isolation? Any availability?

I work for the NHS so can't change my leave. That's it for this summer sadly. I can take my leave from September onwards but not in the summer holidays now. Thank you for your kind words though. It's nice to be listened to when you need a moan!

Oh what a shame! I haven't booked anything and wishing I had... but you have kindly reminded me of the reality... it is just crap. But I keep telling myself, this won't be the only summer. There will be other better summers ahead.

Without sounding too cheesy thank you for working for the NHS, I wish I could clap a pay rise out of the air for you x

Thank you @MoiraNotRuby

I’m so sorry. My holiday is probably going to be cancelled (in Australia where everything has gone to shit) and I’ve been looking forward to it so much. Instead I’m having to use my annual leave for lockdown Angry

Feelingmardy · 22/07/2021 00:30

So sorry for you too @bluetongue It's gutting when you don't really get a proper break

Flowers

That is absolutely crap.

Sometimes when I have a disappointment I try to cheer myself up (camping in the garden instead, making the most of it) and sometimes I just want to wallow and lick my wounds. Either is an acceptable response.

You're not just moaning, you are legitimately disappointed.

Just realised I should have worded my post better. I’m in Australia and having to cancel my trip. I wasn’t silly enough to book a holiday to Australia from the UK during a pandemic Grin

I should at least get all my money back. My travel fund is really growing! (shame I can’t spend any of it).
