I have fallen into depression as the result of job loss during the pandemic, and realising that I've wasted a lot of opportunities in the past and then going through the mill of rejection after rejection during job hunting so my doctor has put me on citalopram. I've also just been started on ritalin for ADHD by a private psychiatrist although I've been assured both can be taken together. So been on the citalopram 2 weeks and the ritalin a week.

It's making me feel quite strange though.... before this I was on no medication for mental health and now the two together... I'm taking the citalopram at night and then ritalin 5mg with each meal.

Anyone else on both of these together and how long does/did it take to feel better? I just want to sleep and/or do literally nothing all the time even on the ritalin which I know is counter intuitive but that's the depression taking over I think.

Citalopram made me tired for about 6 weeks. It helped a lot with mood. I was on long acting methylphenidate. Maybe start slow with small tasks? Go back to your Psych if it does not improve soon.

I think starting the two together was not ideal as I don't know what side effects are from what drug.
I've upped my ritalin to 10mg x 3 now too.

Unfortunately I got depression due to being unable to work and I need the ritalin to concentrate at work, just started a new temp job, so I can't really come off either. Plus I've been waiting 2 years to get on ritalin.

I'm with psychiatry uk who don't actually speak to you, just send messages through the portal.

I’m on Elvanse rather than methylphenidate now but the combination of an adhd med and an SSRI is working so well - I feel better than ever, I am like an entirely new person. I was on a different brand of mp before but while it did help it was nothing like this.

However please make sure you are aware of the symptoms of serotonin syndrome as there is a risk from taking these meds together. A very small risk so please don’t worry - I’m happily on the combination like I said and both my psychiatrist and my GP are happy with this - but just be aware of things like shivering and flu like symptoms especially if you do increase the dose of either medication 💐

I was on 10mg citalopram and 27mg Xaggatin. Make sure you eat well and keep hydrated.
