Advised by therapist to go on medication

Hi all,

I've been seeing a therapist for around two months due to having such high anxiety. My mind doesn't switch off at all. It's got to the point where I'm crying everyday and having major panic attacks.

My therapist has been a big help and she's identified the biggest problem is that I can't move out yet because I can't afford it but I'm really unsettled in my own home (I live with big family).

She advised to go on medication in the short term as today I couldn't stop crying in the session. My biggest fear is that I'll react badly on them or be unable to get off them.

Can anyone tell me their experiences with medication for anxiety and whether they have been successfully weaned off them.

Hi OP, I was advised by my therapist to go on the medication and I refused. About 4 months into therapy I caved in and started on opripramol. I took it for a very short time and while I started on the lowest dose it helped a lot to break the anxiety chain. I was successfully weaned off them and even though I did have a reaction to weaning off, I was far enough in the therapy to be able to handle it with the help of the therapist.

That's so good to hear and how are you feeling now? I'm so low ATM that I'm struggling to help myself e.g. I know what will help me but I don't do it because on thought sets me off on a spiral. How long did it take to work for you?
