Finding a counsellor for a teen

Hi, my daughter was discharged from camhs quite some time ago but is still struggling with life (friendships, school, overthinking everything and feeling that noone cares about her). She has just turned 17. I want to find a private counsellor for her- do I just use Google or does anyone (the gp?) offer advice as to how to find someone??

I just googled when looking for one for my son. Lots of them will tell you their specialties so look for one specialising in teens. Most will offer free initial consultations so go to a few and find one she thinks she likes.

Great, thank you!

Yes Google your area. I found a lovely lady for a 20 year old. Not cheap but worth every penny. Good luck

Use the BACP site or counselling directory, that way you know they're registered and qualified. That's what I did as I didn't really know where to start either. If you're in London I know my counsellor specialises in young people and has been an endless source of support (and occasionally the bringer of the tough love) so would be happy to recommend if you like.

BPS have a search tool here. And AChiPPP have one here.

Also, Relate offer counselling for teens.
