To go to A and E?

Mum233 · 21/06/2021 15:01

For mental health? I feel like I’m massively wasting their time but can’t see GP and receptionists said they to go to A and E.
I have health anxiety (PTSD related) and have spiralled to a point where I can’t cope. I feel like it’s dramatic to go to A and E and I’m also worried they will think I’m a bad mum because I’m anxious?

Call 111 maybe ? Are you suicidal ?

Sorry you're struggling.

takealettermsjones · 21/06/2021 15:13

Hi OP, if your life is at risk you are definitely not unreasonable to go to A&E, call an ambulance, or call any emergency number you might have been given by your care coordinator. It doesn't matter why your life is at risk. I hope you get the help you need today.

Enough4me · 21/06/2021 15:14

Yes get help if you need it Flowers

Mum233 · 21/06/2021 15:15

My husband rang the crisis team and they told him to take me to A and E. I feel as though as I’m not suicidal it’s wasting their time though!

111 option 2

Donotgogentle · 21/06/2021 15:16

It’s possible you’ll spend hours waiting in A&E though.

Have your tried the community mental health team?

Allllchange · 21/06/2021 15:16

It's probably the only way to access emergency mental health support without waiting months in most places now sadly. If that was what the crisis team recommended it will be for a reason so I would go. You need support so are not wasting services.

Maybe A&E is your best gateway to help if that’s what they’ve said.
PurpleyBlue · 21/06/2021 15:18

If the crisis team said to go to A&E you should probably do that. And tell them the crisis team told you to go. You are not wasting anyone's time.

You should go. You're not wasting anybody's time.
ChickenFeed30 · 21/06/2021 15:20

Where do you live? Lots of areas you can now refer yourself to local psychology services without GP referral

If you've been told to go, they clearly don't think you'd be wasting anyone's time Flowers

IARTNS · 21/06/2021 15:22

Also ask yourself this; if someone else posted this and you were answering what would you tell them to do? I bet you would tell them to go to A&E.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 21/06/2021 15:22

The crisis team have given you their advice which it to go to a&e. They want what is best for you so please go to a&e

spanielstail · 21/06/2021 15:23

Pay privately if you want to be seen urgently. the NHS waiting times are long.

You should do as advised but I do think unless suicidal you probably won't get a lot from a&e as it's not an emergency.

Mindymomo · 21/06/2021 15:23

Yes go. I’m sure you won’t be turned away.

Sometimesfraught82 · 21/06/2021 15:24

You have children?

Get yourself to wherever you need to be to get help ASAP

JSL52 · 21/06/2021 15:26

Go to AE they usually have an in house MH team. Do you have a community psychiatric nurse ?
I think the crisis team should have seen you ideally , you're not a bad mother.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/06/2021 15:33

If you’re told to go then go.

MichaelMumsnet · 21/06/2021 15:41

Hi there. We've had a few reports from Mumsnetters concerned about this thread. While we're daily amazed by some of the excellent advice and support offered on Mumsnet, there's really no substitute for proper medical attention.
OP, if you think you're unwell then please do go and see a doctor.

A&E will have someone from the crisis team there or they will have an on call/duty MH member of staff. I have been before and they were fantastic.

Wotsit111 · 21/06/2021 15:53

My experience of a&e with a close family member was abysmal. Similar circumstances with calling crisis team in first instance. The words of the mental health nurse in a&e were ‘we’ll be shot if we help you.’ Apparently didn’t meet their threshold so they were left to get worse until they did meet threshold 3 weeks later. Shockingly bad uncaring treatment that night that I’ll never forget 😞

Louby08 · 21/06/2021 21:30

I went to A&E last night. I have severe anxiety.

I felt absolutely dreadful. I felt like I didn’t want to be here anymore. (Not suicidal)
I felt dread, just an awful sense of overwhelming dread and fear.
I can’t explain it, but it was awful.

Id already spoken to my GP & 111 but didn’t feel like I was getting anywhere.
