Hey has anyone taken Amitriptyline for anxiety and can confirm if this works. Have recently been on sertraline but my dr has now taken me off them due to bad side effects and on Friday I start 10mg of the new tablets? Not sure if these will work as reading up 10mg is normally used for pain relief. Anyone have any positives with these ones. The thing I'm hoping for the most is getting a good nights sleep as not slept great whilst on sertraline x

I was on them for years. They made me sleep and were excellent for mood. Less good for anxiety. But that’s just me. 10mg is very low, l was on 125mg.

I’m on Venlafaxine now, which is one of the best ones I’ve taken.

Paroxetine or Chlomipramine are the ones for anxiety.

I'm on 10mg Amitryptiline for headaches but it has had the pleasant side effect of noticeably calming my anxiety, even though I know it's nowhere near the dose I would need for that. I have tried taking it at different times per day and it seems to make me universally drowsy - much better than the headaches though and also helps with a solid sleep.

I'm on 20mg amitriptyline for sleep. never really had an anxiety disorder but when I started them I did have some mild depression which is now better. My mood and stability is greatly improved (as well as sleep)

I like it, I’m on 40 citalopram and 50 amitriptyline so I can’t say for definite it’s the latter that helps the most but it does help

Thanks all. I'll see how I get on. May just be on it for a few weeks as Thursdays my last day on sertraline. They where going to give me beta blockers to try and block the physical symptoms of anxiety but as I have asthma I can't take them which I'm gutted about. Did try citaloptam a couple of years ago which worked for me. They won't put me on them now as I'm on blood thinners (was back then but at a different drs this time) I've always been anxiously from being a kid and generally I can cope with that on its own. But over last couple of months I've been having constant feeling of anxiety with loads of panic attacks. I just pray that what ever they have given me help a little

They do work very well but I'm on a higher dose 100mg. They won't just go in at that dosage though, you have to build up. It's an old antidepressant, not used much anymore except for nerve pain and bedwetting or when all other antidepressants fail to help. My doctor called it the sledgehammer approach to depression.

Littleminx1 · 16/06/2021 09:27

@nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut thank you. Well I'm hoping it works. Have you found it ok? No bad side effects or anything. Was so bad with sertraline can't cope with a repeat of that

I had the worst anxiety ever. Really, really awful. Nothing helped until I started amitriptyline 10mg.
The doctor said 10mg would never work for anxiety but I was prescribed it for IBS and it just worked for everything. It’s amazing.
The only problem is, you can’t drink alcohol with it and if you miss one, you’ll have a bad night’s sleep.
It really helped me though and I hope it works for you too.

Littleminx1 · 16/06/2021 21:15

Oh really. That's good to know as off camping at weekend and would have had a drink. Glad to hear they have helped. I really hope they work for me too

No, it's been fine. I had some dizzy spells when I first increased to 50mg but only for a couple of weeks then they stopped and I had a bit of a dry mouth but other than that, nothing.

I couldn't have Sertraline either. Or any SSRI. I react badly to them.

Realitea · 17/06/2021 07:04

I react badly to SSRI’s too.
Littleminx1 - I’m glad I warned you about the alcohol in time!

Littleminx1 · 17/06/2021 22:18

@nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut oh that's not too bad. I can handle that. Well taken first tablet tonight. Just waiting to feel tired haha

@Realitea me too thanks for letting me know

You don't feel tired so much as lay down, blink and realise it's morning lol.

Littleminx1 · 05/07/2021 19:22

Well I'm a couple of weeks in and still no better with sleeping.

Has anyone taken these and has sore muscles. Everything for the last couple of weeks I move or get up my leg muscles are so sore and I've not been exercising Tia x
