Has anyone lost their therapist?

My lovely therapist is having to stop working for personal reasons. She says she can transfer clients to someone else, but I just can’t imagine trusting anyone the way I trust her. It took ages to get to that point.

Also is it unethical to ask for a postal address? I’d like to send a card. I owe her so much.

Sorry, this is happening to you. Hopefully you will find your new therapist just as helpful. Your old one should make sure you are a good match, and not just dump you on whoever is free.

Can you send a card to her work place? They can then pass it on to her home address.

Thanks Xeno.
No, she has taken care to find someone she says is really good. She is always meticulously careful about things like that, which is why I trust her so much.
Will try workplace, thank you.

Yes and it's heartbreaking. He wasn't qualified to treat the disorder that it was becoming increasingly clear that I had and his supervisor told him that he needed to refer me to someone who had experience with PTSD and sexual abuse.

I was really brave until he hugged me goodbye, then I cried my eyes out. I do trust my current therapist though, even more than I did the first and I'm making more progress with him.

Oh, nothing, that sounds really hard. I’m really sorry. I’m glad you’re doing well with the new one.

Yeah it was difficult and did leave me with a few abandonment issues but you do bond with the new therapist quite quickly if they are good. I hope you get along well with your new therapist too.

This happened to me due to relocation, I remember going through a grieving process, it’s normal, in our last session I gave my therapist a potted mini rose plant & a card, we also hugged, a very emotional day, I do think of her as apart from being my therapist she came across as a very kind & compassionate person who had a very positive effect on my life. I never thought I would find a therapist as good as her again, years later I did, I’ve been seeing my current therapist for 2.5 years now, I do worry how I would cope if anything happened to her but reading this thread has made me remember that I thought that about the previous therapist, there are many excellent therapists out there who can support us on journey

All the best Adeleh Flowers
