Help with venlafaxine/efexor withdrawal

Have been on venlafaxine for a while but felt it was time to come off. I've been taking half dose for a while with no effects. Stopped altogether yesterday and have some symptoms now, vertigo, sickness, dizziness. Mild but annoying.
Anyone found anything that helps?
Thanks.

Hi AnxiousPixie, I have no medical qualifications, but I have come off venlafaxine three times in the past.

What worked for me was to first reduce the dose to one 75mg capsule per day (if necessary), then extend the time between capsules from 24 hours to 36 hours to 48 hours and so on, with each step taking a period of 2/3 weeks depending on the severity of the discontinuation effects, and then taking a capsule every few days (perhaps once a week) only if the effects got to be difficult to handle. I found it worthwhile to take things reasonably slowly and cautiously, and it meant tolerating a degree of dizziness, headaches, "brain zaps," odd dreams, etc., during the process.

I would certainly suggest speaking with your doctor about your plans, if you haven't already. They may prescribe the low-dose 37.5mg capsules, which could make the process easier. I read once that some doctors prescribe another antidepressant like fluoxetine/Prozac as a replacement for venlafaxine, as fluoxetine has a longer life in the body making it easier to discontinue, but I have no idea if that is common or even a good idea.

I also read that some people found omega-3 fish oils to be helpful in reducing some of the discontinuation effects, but I tried them once and didn't see any noticeable difference.
