I’m trying to get off quetiapine, been on it for a few years. It’s gone ok so far, but this week I’ve gone 100-50mg and I’m really struggling. I can’t get to sleep and I feel so anxious all the time. Im obsessing over things that happen during the day. I’m exhausted. I’m trying to keep busy, but I’m struggling with my usual routines due to being so tired. Will this pass and I just need to stick with it? How long does it last? Or do I give up and backtrack?

That’s a big jump down—you’ve halved the dose. I’d go to 75mg for a bit. The slower you do it, the more likely it is to work long term. Good luck. I take 2700mg (that’s not a typo! Hmm. I can’t see me ever getting off it.

Unless you’re on the XR version—not sure if they do 25mg tablets in that type.

Wow that is a massive dose! Maybe I should ask if they could prescribe some 25mgs...I’m trying to work my way off 3 different meds and have done 1 completely already, so I was surprised to find this relatively small step so difficult.

My CPN has always said it’s not about the dose—it is the percentage reduction. So a drop from 500 to 450 would be fine, but 100 down to 50 is a big leap. Good luck with getting off it.

Hi there .. quetiapine is a powerful sedative so you will have sleep issues for a while before you can regulate
With an anti psychotic it’s advisable to follow the advice of a psychiatrist in reducing your dose safely
