Hello. My husband has been struggling with anxiety and OCD for a few years now. It's worsened over the last year. He's been doing some CBT online, reading self help books, using headspace, and made some lifestyle changes but it's not enough. He's tried to speak to GP but doesn't feel like the severity of the situation is really understood. GP said he doesn't fit criteria for 1 to 1 sessions with a professional but husband feels it would help. Money well spent in our eyes to speak to a trained professional privately but clueless where to start looking to find someone. Can anyone recommend a person, group, etc? We're in central Scotland but I'm presuming because of COVID allot of 1 to 1 sessions would be on zoom etc anyway. TIA.

Hello, DD suffers badly with OCD and intrusive thoughts. We have private health care and BUPA gave us this link to choose a therapist.

They are not exclusive to BUPA and most of them are just approved private therapists with some accepting NHS referrals too.

She prefers face to face counselling and has been able to continue this through Covid.

Sorry, to add - you need to pick say CBT in the search fields as the link has defaulted to gastro problems. 🙈

I have suffered this for 3 yrs with a great therapist. Finally she recommended gp support for this. Placed on lexapro 10 mg and it has been the best thing for me. Reluctant at first but has changed my life. HAPPY now for the first time in years.

@Nannyamc That's good to hear! 😊 My husband had a 3min phone consultation with GP today who's commenced him on citalopram. Husband asked about a referral for counselling but GP said he should wait and see how he felt after 3wks. Made me so sad. He's not been able to work the last 3days because he's so consumed by dark thoughts. We're currently trying to find someone via the recommended link @SpeakingFranglais posted. Antidepressant will hopefully help but he definitely needs to talk to someone who understands the complexity of his OCD.

So glad he made that call. In the mean time he needs to give his mind a rest. It will take a couple of weeks to kick in. Best of luck
