ADHD in Cambridge

My very ADHD son, through sheer hard work received an offer from Cambridge University. We were delighted to hear the news. After many years of struggling with his ADHD this was really a moment of joy for him. He’s basically very much dependant on his meds and is unable to function without them. We recently had a meeting with his psychiatrist and he says that many GPs around Cambridge University are unwilling to prescribe ADHD meds and that we have to ensure that we register with the right one. Has anyone else faced this situation before? Would really appreciate if anyone knows of a GP who would be sympathetic to ADHD patients. The thought of my poor DS going to a GP who makes him feel like bad about himself would be terrible. Thanks so much for your help in advance. Any info would be great.

Congrats to your DS. I'm assuming that's because of the worry/potential for ADHD meds to be misused by students who are non ADHD. I'm not sure I can help but there is a helpful Facebook group called ADHD UK where there is bound to be more local information.

I’m sorry I can’t help with the name of a GP, but I work at the university and there are many students with ADHD. You could try contacting the university’s Disability Resource Centre www.disability.admin.cam.ac.uk/ who are the team that coordinate academic support requirements, they may have suggestions about GPs as well.
