Wobble on Sertraline

Starting my 5th week of Sertraline 50mg and from about week 3/4 I could see a big difference. I was able to function with daily life, string a sentence together and a was starting to enjoy things again.
However this week I have started to feel sudden bouts of feeling really sad. I just comes on all of a sudden with no idea why and it start to worry I will go back down hill again.
Is this normal? Do I need an increase in dose?

Don't panic. A few off days doesn't necessarily mean you will go down hill. It can take a good 6 weeks if not a bit longer to feel the full benefit of sertraline. I found weeks 5 and 6 tricky at times. Do you have any scheduled catch ups with your gp? It might be that you would benefit from increasing your dose, but at the same time you could also hang on for another couple of weeks and see how you are doing then depending on your situation. 50mg is the lowest therapeutic dose. I found my anxiety lifted first and then I was left with a low feeling. I understand it can take a bit longer for it to reduce depression.

There's a sertraline hand holding thread with lots of people going through the same thing. You'd be welcome to post your worries on there too. Be kind to yourself.

Thanks for your reply!!
The GP was supposed to review at 4 weeks but they didn’t call and I’ve attempted several times to get a phone consultation but the queue is so long and haven’t managed to get through yet.....it’s just stopped at say caller number 17 and doesn’t move or get to caller number 1 and it just cuts off. Even the health visitor sent them a message and that didn’t prompt a call. I’ll try again today I think.
I feel the other way round to you I think, the mood lifted but the anxiety seems to be worse. But now that sudden feeling of sadness feels like it was when it first started before Xmas.

I will take a look at that other thread too Thankyou for lettiing me know.

I increased my dose at week 4 when I felt like this. Now on max dose and seems to be pretty steady going. Speak to your GP OP. Best of luck

I'm on week four and just increased from 50mg to 100mg. I've not spoken to the GP, but completed an online review.

I think I need to keep persisting with getting through over the phone. Even if the GP thinks I should stick the next week or two out, at least I have discussed things with her. @middleager have you felt a difference yet or is it too soon to tell?
