Sertraline just for literal phase

I took 50mg of Sertraline for the first time yesterday and have only had 3 hours sleep!
I’m normally a good sleeper.
I have been prescribed it for the 10 days before my period due to very bad PMT.
This morning I’ve broken one in half and have just had 25mg hoping that if it’s as far away from bedtime I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

Has anyone else experienced this? It’s taking all my bravery to take it but Ive tried everything else.

I don't know how it works to take it in patches like that. It takes a bit of getting used to, so I'm not sure about stopping and starting. Wouldn't a constant low dose be better? I took it for two or three years. It helped me over the death of my dad.

Hey :)

I promise you, the sleep gets better. I started on 50mg and the first night I barely slept either. I was just wired! But it got better and by the end of the first week I was sleeping as normal :).

When I did this for pmdd I started out taking it every day for the first month or two and then reduced down. I found this easier to manage.

Morning is better for Sertraline. Its a bugger for keeping you up. Not sure if it will work like that though, it takes weeks for it to get to work usually.

I take mine in the morning for this reason. I had terrible insomnia for 2 weeks until I switched over.

Do you have to have a very regular cycle to know when to start taking it each month?

blackbettybramblejam · 22/03/2021 18:45

Yes my cycle is very regular indeed and always has been. I’ve been tracking my progesterone spike for months and it always comes exactly 10 days before my period. When my period comes I feel fully functional and fine.

I take sertraline for pmdd and anxiety but take it everyday. I found first few weeks we're very rough but then gradually felt better each day after this. I would second pp to try and take it in the morning as it will keep you wired all night if not. Also its helped with my pmdd so much so hopefully you'll see the benefits quickly.

Thank you. I took 25 yesterday and today am and feel weird but okay.
Next job is to tackle the weight gain from managing my mood swings with food that calms me down (carbs) not looking forward to it but I think it’ll be easier to do on Sertraline because my moods won’t be as irratic.
I’ve already noticed my ADHD tendencies have calmed down and I’m able to focus more.

Hey OP,

I've been on 100MG sertraline once daily for 2+ years. I remember when I started I was on 50MG and was completely wired. My anxiety was crazy high and I couldn't sleep. I had these side effects for about a fortnight before it calmed down. My advice would be to stick with it, these tablets have given me my quality of life back and I wouldn't recommend messing about with them.

Good luck and I hope you're feeling better soon. Daffodil
