Help in a crisis

I've posted before so I know I need to be careful what I say.

I'm having a bit of a crisis, I tried to call 111 but the recorded message said it was for Covid only. I called the GP but they could only make me an appointment for Thursday despite me explaining the issue. The Samaritans have been quite unhelpful in the past so I don't feel comfortable phoning them.

Can anyone else help me?

Do you have a contact number for the local crisis team? If you’re in danger than go to A and E. Flowers

TokyoSushi · 23/02/2021 12:57

If you Google 'name of your town mental health crisis' then there's usually a number to call. Hope you're ok Flowers

Mylittlesandwich · 23/02/2021 13:07

I can't find a number, just a referral system. Since I'm already receiving counselling and medication there seems to be little else that can be done.

You can go to A&E for a crisis assessment

soresore · 23/02/2021 13:08

Call 999 Thanks

isitsafetocomeoutyet · 23/02/2021 13:12

A crisis is an emergency. Call 999.

Do you have anyone else you feel safe speaking to? Thanks

Mylittlesandwich · 23/02/2021 13:17

I've spoken to DH. He doesn't know what to do either.

A&E

Rustnot · 23/02/2021 13:38

111 and option 2 should get you access to your local crisis team - you do have to sit through a lot of corona messages first so it is a bit of a faff.

I wouldn't call 999 as I think you will be waiting a long time and the paramedics are limited in what they can do, especially if your DH or someone else can get you to hospital if you are unsafe.

Wolfiefan · 23/02/2021 13:40

Things can be done. But not by a lay person or DH. You need medical attention.

Mylittlesandwich · 23/02/2021 13:46

I'm on hold to get through to 111. I don't feel comfortable calling 999. It feels like a misuse of resources.

Mylittlesandwich · 23/02/2021 14:16

Still on hold. I hope they can help.

Did you manage to get anywhere?

soresore · 23/02/2021 17:47

How are you?

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 23/02/2021 18:03

Are you able to contact your counsellor? Mine has talked me down off the proverbial ledge a few times. Failing that have you ever been given a number for the out of hours crisis team?

OurChristmasMiracle · 23/02/2021 18:06

If you need someone to talk to but would rather message there is an organisation called SHOUT who you can text on 85258 they are available 24/7 should you need them.

Mylittlesandwich · 23/02/2021 22:06

I got through to NHS24 after an hour. She was nice, some of the advice seemed a little odd but it came from a good place.

They have arranged for the crisis team to call me back within 24 hours.

If I'm honest I broke covid rules and had a coffee in my car with my mum. I know it's not allowed but I needed her. I feel a little better. I've taken a few days off work to regroup so I'll see how I go.

@Mylittlesandwich it is allowed if you need it.

soresore · 24/02/2021 09:16

@Mylittlesandwich that's not breaking the rules. I'm glad you feel slightly better.
