3rd sertraline tablet and feel shit - how long will this last?

Been reluctant to take anti depressants for a variety of reasons for over a decade and finally caved in.

On my third tablet and I feel shit. Funny taste in my mouth, can't sleep, head feels a bit dizzy, heavy and weird.

Whilst it's not majorly discomforting just wandering when it stops? Has anyone else felt like this? My reluctance to take these tablets and how I feel is really making me think twice and just carry on life without meds.

Can someone just give me some clarity on if this will settle down if they've had similar experiences?

It really does get better. It took me a bit less than a week. I take them in the morning which helps with sleep.

Everyone is different - it took me a solid week or two before I stopped feeling so funny. It’s worth it though.

Took me about a week to stop feeling like I was in an alien body and about a month to fully settle down

It will get better and when it does it feels like someone has opened the curtains!

Took me 2 or 3 weeks and then same again after every dose increase. I just restarted this week after around a year off them and I feel so rubbish so I sympathise.

Just a warning that it doesn't always get better if that family of drugs doesn't suit you.
I persevered for three weeks and got very unwell some years ago. The GP was horrified when I saw him. Other antidepressants have been fine

I feel very upset. After all these years of doing every natural remedy you can think of to control my mental illness and I try it and feel like this. I don't think I've got it in me to try another 'family' of drugs.

I found this with the pill I tried about five and none of them agreed with me so I now don't use contraception in a pill form we use other methods because of this.

Don't know what to do.

It took me about a week.
I do know what you mean I was hugely reluctant but they have made a big difference to me. I feel less like I am drowning now

Sorry you're going through this @tootsytoo.

I'm on day 12 of 50g of sertraline and the side effects are waning.

They were really difficult for the first week and have gradually eased off since then (but not always in a neat linear way).

I called my GP and he asked me to try to bear it for two weeks. I had to dig really deep, and it does seem particularly harsh that these medications can make us feel worse before we feel better.

From what I can gather some people suffer much more than others wrt side effects, but that doesn't mean that they aren't eventually going to work for these people.

I found the increased anxiety, especially in the mornings very difficult, but it's getting better slowly but surely.

I think it can take 6-8 weeks to really feel the benefit.

There's a support thread on the mental health board for those of us getting to grips with sertraline- feel free to pop over.
