i have complex PTSD and have been ill for years with hallucinations and other problems.
i started citalopram and it was an instant wonder drug, I have to take it in the morning or I'm awake all night. I felt almost instantly better and it was a complete life changer for me.
It was fine for three months then my eyes started watering constantly, itching, were always red and so uncomfortable I can hardly see my computer screen at work. I like to wear makeup and haven't been able to wear any at all as it just runs down my face and I look like I've been crying all night which at 60 isn't a good look.
I've had all the eye tests and my doctor says it's a reaction to citalopram and probably all SSRI's.
I have a choice to stop taking it or put up with the symptoms.
I just don't know what to do now, I can't go back to being mad, depressed, hearing voices again but i can't live like this either.
I don't know what an alternative to SSRI that will work are?
I haven't taken one this morning, I just can't deal with the sore and inflamed eyes today.
WWYD?

That is wierd, I get a streamimg eye too! I thought it was a reaction to fumes from cooking as I live in a flat. Is your home well aired e.g. windows open every day? Have you tried things like Optrex, an antihistamine, Neil Med for sinuses, and do you remove make up every night?

Yes I do all those things, nothing works, eye problems are a well known side effect of SSRIs. Thinking about it it started when I went up from 10 to 20 mgs.
I think I might go back to 10 mgs and maybe work my way up very very slowly.
