Question about patient choice and moving hospitals

Hello, looking for quick replies this evening.

My relative is being forced against her will to move to a privately run hospital that has very bad reviews and is well known to be awful. She wants to move back to an NHS hospital.

She has severe depression and borderline personality disorder.

I’ve asked to speak to the consultant in charge of her care but I cannot get through and now a meeting has been scheduled for later in the week but they want to move her to this other hospital in the morning.

We don’t want this to happen until we have found out the reasons why with the doctor to make an informed decision.

Can they really force her against her will?

Any help / guidance would be most appreciated.

What is she in hospital for? Is she on an appropriate ward for her medical condition? Can you phone and ask to speak to the nurse in charge? They should know the reason why she is being transferred.

Why is she in hospital. Is she on an appropriate ward or does she need specialist care. Is she on a MH section.

MHservices · 02/02/2021 20:16

Sorry for the drip feed

She has borderline personality disorder and has been suicidal

I have been trying since last week to speak to a doctor or nurse and have had to send in a complaint due to lack of response

A meeting has been scheduled for later this week but now they suddenly want to move her to this other hospital tomorrow

My relative says untrue allegations have been made about her, and the CQC inspection report for this hospital is very very poor and so is the other place they want to move her to

I want to know how much choice we have over where she is referred to because we want her to get the best possible treatment

We don’t know much and this is why we want to speak to a clinician before a decision is made

Is she currently on a m.h ward. Are you her responsible adult. It sounds very frustrating.

PotteringAlong · 02/02/2021 20:28

Has she been sectioned or is she in hospital voluntarily?

MHservices · 02/02/2021 20:30

I am now her responsible adult and this is why I want to speak to her doctor

She was sectioned a year ago for being suicidal

What sort of ward is she on. Has she been in hospital for a year since she was first sectioned. Is she happy for you to speak to the staff. Have you tried contacting the ward nurse and do they know you are her r.a. . What reason have they given her for, someone must have discussed it with her.

MHservices · 02/02/2021 20:53

I don’t know what sort of ward she’s on and yes she’s been in for a year. In that time she moved from an NHS hospital to this privately run hospital which has dire CQC ratings. Yes I have made calls every day since last week and had to send in a complaint letter after which a meeting was scheduled for Thursday but now they want to send her off to another poorly reviewed hospital in the morning. They are aware I am responsible for her care now.

Can they force her against her will? Do we not have choice of where she goes?

Is she currently in a mental health or general hospital. That might make a difference. Do you know why she was moved before. Sorry for all the questions but could she need care that isnt available where she is and the only bed is in that private hospital. I dont understand why the nurses cannot tell you anything.

MHservices · 02/02/2021 21:40

She’s in a mental health hospital

It’s been impossible to get through

We don’t want her going to another extremely poorly rated hospital where safety is considered inadequate by the CQC

Hey, just checking in.
How did you get on? Did you manage to halt the move?
