Hallucinations

Sheesh I used to have terrible hallucinations as a side effect of complex PTSD.
I missed just one dose of medication yesterday and this morning had a hallucination, I haven't had one for months.
The alarm clock went off at 6am because I forgot to turn it off, I'm not working today but all I could hear for the next 15 minutes was a nasty horror film version of the usually jaunty alarm clock music, it was horrible.
I'm up now and feel like I'm going to have a bad day - that was after just one missed dose.
has anyone else had auditory or visual hallucinations? I know they are coming from my own head but even so they are so disturbing.

Yes, I get them during periods when I'm more unwell and more anxious etc than usually. (I have a BPD diagnosis from ages ago, but have a history of complex trauma and definitely complex PTSD issues from it.) They're thankfully quite transient for me, lasting only for some seconds at a time. I tend to hear voices like someone calling my name from an other room, or the phone ringing, or knocks etc. so end up doing a lot checking, and not always being 100% sure if it is in my head or not. Very rarely anything scary, thankfully, and even then it's usually just like a scream or something. Visually it's various kinds of distortions more than actually seeing things that are completely not there, but these do scare me often.

I know they are coming from my own head but even so they are so disturbing.

That's how it is for me, too. It's a strangely divided experience. Intellectually I know it's all happening inside my head. I can view it all from a distance and not think too much of it. On the other hand I have a physical and emotional reaction to them as if they are real, and find it harder to deal with that.

Absolutely uncertainties. I react to them you can't help it. When I first had them I really though it was a ghost or poltergeist and actually got a medium in before I twigged they were hallucinations. I've got to be more careful about not missing medication.
