***Citalopram Buddies... ;o)***

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 25/10/2007 12:18

Well.. jumping in on the act of the other "buddy threads", there seem to a shed load of us on citalopram.

How many of us are there exactly?

What dosage are you all on? Is it working?

I'm on 10mg for anxiety. It certainly takes the edge off the panic feelings and stops me waking up with that dreadful, crippling anxious feeling, as if my stomach's in a vice. But being as things are a bit crap at the moment, I do feel generally down even though I've never been technically considered depressed (just suffering from lifestyle induced anxiety!)

DH is on 20mg. Similar reasons, slightly different symptoms.

We have been on it since June.

I came off mine (sensibly) a month of so ago but the horrid panic came back and I just couldn't face all that again. It makes life "un-do-able" and I have a lot of stuff that I have to get done everyday/responsibilities etc. So not sure what the answer is but I certainly don't want to stay on anti depressants forever and GP originally mentioned a 6 month time slot.

What are other's experiences?

PS I hate the "no orgasm" side effect of citalopram!! It really really bothers me.. main reason I wanted to come off it.. but I hate the anxiety more! Anyone else on it suffer in that way?

If I were you I wouldn't mention it unless they do. Do you know for sure that it'll be mentioned in your reference?

Twigy · 13/02/2008 11:44

Yeah it will be on my attendance record. Want to be honest from the start to show I am trustworthy!

chubbymummy · 13/02/2008 20:21

That's great news Itsa.
Sorry you're stressing about the job Twigy, If they know about your attendance then yeah it's probably worth being honest with them, at least then they will know that there is a genuine reason for absence and that you are not just a lazy bugger that phones in sick with a hangover. Make sure you say that although you've been through a tough time you have got through it now and feel much stronger as a result (they don't need to know that the meds are still helping you through it - you can always let them know that part once you have accepted the job). If you can make it sound like a positive experience then even better eg, "I think this will help me empathise with people more during customer relations" (sorry don't know what line of work you are in)

Twigy · 13/02/2008 20:30

Actually it will be sales. Thanks Chubby I knewbI could rely on you. I'll be really giddy during the interview anyway(nerves)so she will probably think there is nothing wrong with me. Providing I have the same coloured shoes on

SpringSunshine · 13/02/2008 20:56

Hi everyone

Itsa glad all went well at the docs - hope the 40mg works for you. Give yourself all the time you need and then think about what to do in your career, you are not really in the right frame of mind to be thinking about it yet. You are definitley not mad thinking about suicide - in the New year I regulalry thought about driving off the cliffs and it was that which finally sent me to the docs!

Twigy - great news about the job interview and best of luck. If you are telling them about the PND I agree with chubby about making it positive and you could emphasise the different points about this job eg the hours which will fit in better with your work life balance

kk how are you today?

Sparkler - good luck in coming off the pills; I think if you take it slow and steady you should be fine

Chubby glad you are coming along well - a good night's sleep is worth an awful lot

Well, I went back to work today and apart from now being absolutely shattered it went really well (well I think so - not sure what my colleagues think ) The big boss was really great and kept wandereing over to say how good it was I was back

Tomorrow off (to recover ) then back in on Friday - actually quite looking forward to it

Bit spooky tho cos one of my colleagues is going thro a bad time and is talking about being depressed but as no-one knows why i was off it makes for an interesting conversation where i try to emphathise without giving much away

kkgirl · 13/02/2008 21:14

Hi Spring Sunshine

Glad that your work was ok, I do feel a bit worried because I'm not sure if everyone in my office knows why I'm out. I am getting to a stage where I want to go back, I'm lonely at home and find it hard to get motivated to do too much housework, our house is very messy, and it would take years to declutter and tidy - I have started a bit of decluttering.

Its surprising how many people are suffering from depression, you think everyone else is ok and then you find that loads of people are suffering.

Twigy · 13/02/2008 21:32

Hi Sunshine and KK.

Sunshine glad today went well for you, we all had faith in you. . The first day is always the worst.

KK the reason why I joined MN was because I was really lonley especially with DH being away alot. I met some nice people through another thread one of which is on this. I really look forward to the meets. Can you oragainse a coffee or lunch with your friends during the week even if its a coffee during their lunch break?

Makes the day feel a bit better!

Hows squirdle these days, hope you are ok.

itsahardknocklife · 13/02/2008 23:13

Hi all.
Sunshine, I'm glad it's not just me that thinks about it (the big S, I mean). We looked at a house a few weeks ago and my other half (who has had depression problems and been in hospital with it in the past) said 'no, look it's right near a suicide bridge'. And it was near a bridge over a busy dual carriageway - would be just too tempting at times!
Twigy - you'll know where I mean! There is a gorgeous house for sale near you with a fab view out the back, but near the bridge. We couldn't afford it anyway, but I fancied the view out the back

Twigy · 14/02/2008 10:46

Itsa that is really scary. I walk over that bridge all the time and it was one day I walked over it and had a truly awful thought, that I went to see my doc. I havent been over that bridge since.

Been to see doc, had my meds reduced to 20mg but think i might start after my JI incase i get withdrawl symptoms.

Hope evryone is ok today?

Hiya,
I'm fine today. The little man has gone back to bed! He was up half the night laughing. Oh to be a baby!
I think you might be wise to wait until after the interview - it's only a few more days, isn't it?

Twigy · 14/02/2008 10:59

Yes I really hope I get it too. Just got a message from one of my bosses saying why did you not come in for your review yesterday. God she is such a bitch. I didn't know I had one, because didnt get a call/letter notifying me! I told her that too.

Going to speak to that nice lady at OHU and ask if when I start back can I use my jollies (still got loads left) and do only 1 day a week!!

HAPPY VALENTINES GIRLIES hope you all get spoilt rotten today. Hopefully my DH will be home later today.

itsahardknocklife · 17/02/2008 16:34

How has everyone's weekend been?

SpringSunshine · 17/02/2008 18:51

Hi all

Hope everyone has been OK since Thursday.

Had a good weekend - took ds to a party on Sat am and ended up 'borrowing' a rabbit for half term which the dcs are absolutely delighted about! I am not quite so keen on the mess they have created Today took the dcs swimming which was great as they have come on so well since I last took them and it was a delight just to have fun and play around with them

Tomorrow I have 4 children coming to play so there will be 6 children in the house (two 4 yr olds, a 5 yr old and three 6 yr olds) so no doubt there will be complete chaos but I have bought some Cava for us 3 mothers

Twigy - good luck for the interview tomorrow

Itsa - how's it going on the increased dose?

kk - how are you getting on thinking about going back to work? Our house is a mess, but I could not get motivated to do much tidying either - my counsellor said it was because I felt that my time off sick was 'my' time to use to get well not do housework

itsahardknocklife · 17/02/2008 18:56

Aw I have a rabbit - they are lovely! Is it inside? Mine is in the garden and garage so the mess is outside at least.
Cor that is a lot of kids to have over - you are braver than me.
The increased dose isn't going well. DH wanted to take me to hospital on Saturday because I was so down and refused to leave the bedroom and just cried. I won though and instead I might go to doc tomorrow. I don't see the point though - what would he do? We'd walk in and DH would say 'she wanted to kill herself and tried to get run over' and doc would say 'oh dear. wait until the tablets start working. what about going back to work?'

Twigy · 17/02/2008 19:20

Its I feel so responsible!!!!

Girls We went out on friday night and were very naughty. We drank coctails!!!
I should have been the responsible one and told Itsa not to drink so much (i am the eldest also) but i was just as bad.

We shouldnt have been drinking coctails Itsa and that is why you felt so bad (as I did).

How do you feel today bet you feel better.

I am so sorry!!!!!!

itsahardknocklife · 17/02/2008 22:19

Don't be silly, you silly billy! I feel ok today. DH made me go out for a bit, just to walk the dog around the block. I spent most of yesterday refusing to leave the bedroom, so today was an improvement.

chubbymummy · 18/02/2008 11:50

Hi Twigy.
How did the interview go?

Twigy · 18/02/2008 19:51

Thanks to all you girls for your advice. I fessed up at the interview and had just got home when I got the call to say I got it!!!

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

SpringSunshine · 18/02/2008 19:56

Oh Twigy that is wonderful news, many congratulations

Best reason of all to finish my bottle of Cava - care for a glass?

chubbymummy · 18/02/2008 20:00

Well done Twigy!!!!!!!!!!!
Really pleased for you, that's fantastic!

Twigy · 18/02/2008 20:06

Oh just a small one for me Sunshine

Hope you two girls are ok? Did you have a good weekend?

SpringSunshine · 18/02/2008 20:54

Here you are Twigy

Tired now, but happy after a good and busy day with friends

kkgirl · 18/02/2008 21:12

Twigy

Well done, so does that mean you won't go back to the other job, I bet you feel relieved.

I've had a good day today, got on with lots of jobs which needed doing.

itsahardknocklife · 18/02/2008 21:44

kk, if you get bored, I have plenty here for you to do too!!
My DP starts a new temp job tomorrow. Arrrggghhh - I dunno if I can cope with the little man on my own.
Are you allowed to lock children in the garage? Just so he can see the rabbit, you understand...
