Has anyone tried online therapy?

I think I need some kind of therpy or counselling. My self esteem is at its lowest, I'm anxious and I am reluctant to leave the house. I am a SAHM and I have a very unsupportive DH. Covid situation isn't helping.

Anyway, I am not in the UK and mental health problems aren't priority where I live so I think online therapy is the way to go for now so where do I start. Anyone had any success with it?

Yes I did, this time last year I did a 6 (maybe 8?) week course of online CBT. It was an instant messaging type thing and so so helpful, so many realisations! I've since had a year of more self-improvement, as wanky as that sounds. I'd recommend it. Mine was through Ieso which is related to the NHS I think so not relevant to you probably. A paid-for alternative almost exactly the same seems to be BetterHelp. Good luck!

Thanks @PolarnOPirate. I'm really glad it helped you. And the extra self inmprovement doesn't sound wanky. Maybe it was nesscescary.

I googled it all briefly and found a lot of sites look like you have to register before you get a price and I'm wary of that. The big thing that's holding me back is that I'm scared of re-living the trauma I'm holding on to the idea of having to go through everything again with a stranger fills me with dread.

You could look at one of the British official therapy website (I don't know what sort of therapy you want but something like the BAPC). They will have therapists listed who offer online therapy and at least you know they are accredited.

I'm using silvercloud online and it's very good. I had to be referred to get an account and I'm not sure whether you could get it outside of the UK.

But as a principle I've found it I valuable, accessible anytime to use as and when I need it. Able to go back over topics if needed and can message supporter through the app.
