I'm in my second trimester and have a history of depression with my PTSD. However, the past few days I feel worse than ever and don't want to up my meds and just don't know what to do.

Any advice on what helped you through pregnancy blues?

Schizoaffective here when I was pregnant I cut meds right down until baby was 6 months old (was only diagnosed after birth of dc2 so only took meds on dc3) I had therapy to help me during pregnancy and after I breastfed which offered some protection from post perpuaul psychosis, but at 6 months I was forced to go back on medication. But therapy is what got me through pregnancy and first 6 months.

I am have the same diagnoses as you OP. I sincerely hope you’re ok. I have been offered a consultant appointment to discuss birth preferences which I’m very pleased about and has helped my symptoms just knowing we can make arrangements for me if I need them.

My PTSD is not from my previous birth or my first pregnancy, but just being pregnant made my PTSD so much worse and very much in the foreground.

I am also second trimester and medicated. You can ask for a GP referral for talking therapy. They have to see you within 6 weeks as per the NICE guidelines. I have phone call CBT with a therapist once fortnightly and it has been really helpful to manage my symptoms.

I am considering asking to increase my meds too. My perinatal mental health midwife told me that medications sometimes need increasing in the second trimester as you have a higher blood volume so the medication is more diluted.

Please reach out and get some help. Things will hopefully be easier for you if you seek a helpful change.

I let never crossed my mind about dosage being diluted later in pregnancy! Makes sense!

Yes, my PTSD isn't from previous pregnancies, this is my first, but like you the pregnancy is bringing a lot of triggers and things from my past.

I will talk to my Midwife when I see her next week about options etc.

Thank you x
