Any experience of private CAMHS hospitals

Does anyone have any experience of 'going private' for CAMHS treatment, for severe teenage anxiety - possibly PSTD related.

Would you recommend it? Do you have any advice?

DS14 already has Asperger's & ADHD, but his presentation has dramatically deteriorated in the last 4-6 weeks. Severe anxiety and weird, strange, manic behaviour. He is already under CAMHS for his existing conditions, but his consultant is away (for unknown duration), and no other consultant on the team will review him. For complicated reasons, there could be a link to past trauma. His specialist school are really concerned about the recent changes, and have also tried to escalate with CAMHS, but apparently it isn't serious enough for any more immediate help. He is no longer attending normal classes at his specialist school, due to their safety concerns.

My family have very kindly offered to help with finances if a private CAMHS psychiatrist assessment and treatment would be quicker. I've no idea where to start though on finding the right person/place. Do I go straight to somewhere like the Priory Group of hospitals, or is it better to get a recommendation for a specific consultant.

If anyone had any advice or experience, I would really appreciate it.

We are in the South East.

My relative was in a Camhs private hospital though nhs funded rather than funding by family. They received really good care there but I have found private hospitals tend to keep people in longer than nhs. I hope you ds gets the help he needs.

Press CAMHS to review DS. The service is still responsible for his care despite his normal consultant being away, especially if DS is medicated for his ADHD. Complain if necessary and contact the crisis team if need be.

There are specialist trauma CAMHS teams, some of which accept private referrals such as Maudsley, GOSH, Glasgow. If you are going to go private I would go to a trauma specialist team if you think this may be the root cause.

Does DS have any therapeutic support in his EHCP? Do you need to call an early review or ask for a reassessment of needs?

Just realised you said you are in the SE, so Glasgow is probably too far but Maudsley and GOSH would fit the bill.
