Sertraline side effects

Started on 50mg of Sertraline. Awful side effects; dry mouth, felt sick, insomnia. Stuck with it. Went up to 100mg and had same side effects but only for 3 days and much milder. Now gone up to 150mg and feel so drowsy all the time. I take it in the evening as it spaces me out if I take it in the morning, but I find that by the time it's 7pm I can barely keep my eyes open. Has anyone else had this when going up to a higher dose of Sertraline? The plan is to go up to max dose so a bit nervous about that...

Yes it does make you drowsy. Could you ask your GP if you can drop down to 75 as a trial for a little while and see if that helps your fatigue..?

I started much more slowly than you.

25mg in the morning for a week - nasty side effects included terrible nausea, feeling hideously tired and sleep all over the place.

After a week, I went to 50mg. It took a full 6 weeks for the side effects to subside and the benefits to kick in. It truly was amazing how much it changed my life. I have GAD with Health Anxiety and was literally crippled with anxiety for almost 15 years.

After 6 months on 50mg, a few niggly symptoms crept back in so the Dr upped me to 100mg. I have been on this dose since March and am doing well.

Hang in there. Try to eat with your medication and perhaps talk to your Dr if you don't start seeing improvement in the side effects.

I think the problem with taking 75 is that for OCD it's only proven to have a significant effect at 200mg. I'm so ridiculously tired!

Is the max dose for a diagnosis of depression, anxiety or both?

IgorThalia · 20/11/2020 22:58

GaDDay it's for obsessive compulsive disorder.

I’m on 100mg. I take it at bedtime (midnight) along with 80mg Half-Beta Prograne (sustained release propranolol).

I have no energy anyway; got something like ME, had it for years. The Sertraline might be making it worse, I’m not sure. I’m extremely inefficient and unproductive.

I’m going to stay on 100mg for the next few months, but I suspect I’ll need to put it up after that.

I’m a terribly indecisive over-thinker, and I need my brain to shut up, which may or may not equate to OCD-type of thing.

I’ve been on sertraline 200mg on and off for over 20 years, for OCD. The side effects do wear off, for me, and I get on quite well with it, but everyone is different and responds differently. Sorry not much help but if the side effects are intolerable there are other SSRIs good for OCD.

I was on sertraline for 2yrs, went through hell starting them, some side effects never went. I never told anyone I was taking them so went through it alone which didn't help but I didn't want to be judged. Coming off them was also hell and a whole load of different side effects. I don't know if the medication worked or it was a change of thinking and work life that helped but I'd be very reluctant to go back to them. Hope your experience is better than mine, everyone reacts differently so give them a chance, take care

I was on 50mg also, they are a terrible med to take, it made me so tired that I could not function. After 3 months I says stuff this and stopped taken them, I still think about suicide and have anxiety but I have found propranolol a much better med to take try them. No tiredness no nothing apart from feeling normal.
