Sertraline questions - anyone on it

I won't bore you with all the details but I have been struggling a bit lately; after this has been ongoing a while my GP suggested I try sertraline

Only my second tablet this morning (I've read the booklet and some online stuff too) but none of it mentions having a hot neck and back of the head??

I've felt nauseous too and not wanted to eat much (loss of appetite) but it says that can happen in the booklet.

Has anyone got any experience of these tablets?

They have saved me completely! I have had some rough patches on them and currently on a higher dosage of 150mg they make me feel normal again.

@IPeedInThePool

Did it take a little while to feel ok on them? Have you had any side effects?
X

I am on Sertraline and really rate it, it’s been a game changer for me (terrible anxiety). However.. the side effects at first were terrible. I had three weeks of sickness, and feeling really bad. Spoke to the doc who said try to stick with it, it will be worth it. It was - but yes, the side effects at first were really hard to deal with.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/11/2020 09:38

The first week or two was DREADFUL - I had all of the symptoms plus a bunch that weren’t listed. After a week or two it’s great.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/11/2020 09:39

I felt hot and sick and headachey and like there were ants crawling under my skin.

Mumofcats5 · 20/11/2020 09:43

Stick with it OP - I too am on 150mg/day and find it life changing.
I didn't have a hot neck but I remember having such a dry throat I was constantly drinking and still dry. I also felt hungover for first week or so.
It's the SSRI getting into your system, there will be a day when suddenly you have no symptoms. From recollection this was around day 8 for me.
Good luck!

IPeedInThePool · 20/11/2020 09:47

Yep keep going honestly they are magic!

berrygirlie · 20/11/2020 09:49

I felt more depressed for a few weeks (as well as having some very vivid dreams). No physical symptoms if I remember correctly, but they did help out a lot after maybe 2 months. I don't take them anymore but if I ever get really bad again I'll go back on them, and I hope they help you out!

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 20/11/2020 12:42

Thanks everyone
Still working atm but struggling - off to see GP again Monday might get signed off while I get these settled xx

I didn't feel nauseous, but other people have done. They made me feel so tired the first few weeks, like I was walking through treacle the whole time, been on it for 5 months and feel absolutely no side effects at all.

Minkyscamp · 20/11/2020 16:04

I'm on day 3 of taking these too OP. I'm taking them for PPMD.

I'm feeling hungover, groggy and headachy with a very dry mouth. Let's hope the side effects are short lived and the tablets have the intended effects!

Ingvermama · 20/11/2020 19:25

Oh yes I remember the dry mouth and also just remembered it made me jittery and twitchy. It's all settled down now though. I feel much better.

salty78 · 20/11/2020 22:57

I've been taking them for 3 weeks. The first week was up and down, nausea, tiredness, head fizzing, headaches. Second week fog began to clear a bit but still some nausea and headaches. Very tired. Lots of night sweats. Third week bad start, dizziness, sweating and I did also pass out when I got up too quickly in the middle of the night, needing a wee a lot, feeling fluey, then that's all gradually subsided as the week's gone on and I'm feeling much better, more positive and can think a bit straighter. The anxiety/low mood has definitely been very up and down until the last day or two. Apart from the first couple of nights I've slept so much better though. I'm really hopeful now they are going to help me sort myself out.

My DD is (and it’s not really working unfortunately but everyone is different). She started on 25mg and felt nauseous for a few days, upped to 50mg after a few weeks, and similar, but upped again to 75mg and she had much worse side effects of vertigo, tiredness and the anxiety ramped up too. She has another 2.5 weeks until her next appt when I’m reluctant to say she should go up to 100mg. The GP said she might change the meds too if 75mg not effective after 6+ weeks.
She’s been on it since mid-August.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 25/11/2020 14:16

I was prescribed these for menopause (which I'm not actually going through yet) - and I had exactly the same experience as you, OP. I managed three tablets (low dose) and gave up. I felt so, so ill.

Luciferthecat666 · 25/11/2020 15:05

@Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst I've had bad side effects on Sertraline in the past but that was because I had undiagnosed bipolar disorder at the time and Sertraline caused hyper manic episodes so I had to be taken off it immediately I'm not allowed anti depressants now because of it. I take anti psychotics which work much better for me.

I'd say keep an eye on the side effects if they're manageable and not causing too many problems stick with it, if not you can always discuss with your GP and try something else. Everyone is different with how meds effect them and as the pp have said it take's a few weeks for them to kick in and the side effects to calm down
