Adult ASD and ADHD likelihood

I wasn’t diagnosed with ASD until adulthood, my 4yo DC was diagnosed with ASD and that’s how they discovered me.

The only thing is my 8yo DC is suspected ADHD and honestly? I fit the bill Confused Now I can’t tell whether I have one, the other or both.

I thought the chance of having children with one disorder each was slim, but what are the chances I’m ASD and ADHD? Or have they maybe misdiagnosed me. Has this happened to anyone else?

It’s all so confusing, I got no help as a child and as a young adult was told I just had depression (I don’t). I finally got told (after claiming mis-diagnosis for years) that I have a personality disorder, which I can relate to. And then subsequently ASD.

Now learning about ADHD for my daughter to go through her assessment, im finding it all so relatable and I’m confused.

You can be diagnosed with both - I was! The ASD diagnosis came first, when I was 22. I don’t have DC, I’d suspected it for a while. ADHD dx came a week before my 24th birthday.
There is a lot of overlap between ASD and ADHD. There are some bits of ASD I don’t fit so well, and I tick nearly all the boxes for inattentive ADHD.
