Citalopram

Hello,

I've been taking citalopram for about 3 months now and it's worked really in terms of my mental health and just making me feel a lot more 'balanced'.

However, I've had a few side effects including headaches, stomach aches and massive weight gain (1 stone since starting!)

Has anyone else experienced weight gain with this?

I've been on it a month and not had weight gain. Would you say you eat more or the same? Wonder if its affected your metabolism. Are you exercising much?

I was taking it at night, just changed to morning. Also trying to walk more, I'd say I have gone from zero to 3'500-7'500 steps a day. Also been tracking meals on a planner.

It has been great for me too. Only on 10mg as this dose is sufficient for what I need (to focus at work!).

@icecream2965 thanks for replying, I'm glad it's worked well for you! I'm on 20mg per day and noticed the changes pretty quickly. It's such a relief.

I wouldn't say my diet has changed, I'm also the mum of a very active 1 year old and regularly do 10k steps per day. I might contact my GP and try to get my thyroid checked instead Confused

I was on it for about a year and can’t say I noticed any appreciable weight gain. I know there are lots of psychoactive medications which can have weight gain as a side effect but I don’t think citalopram is one where it’s especially marked, certainly not in the vein of a stone in a month anyway, like, for example, mirtazapine or some anti-psychotics, mostly due to massively increased appetite.

I've been on it a long time, I think weight loss is a huge sign of anxiety. So maybe its working
