Sertraline one tablet

Hi. So I have been struggling with anxiety after the birth of my son. The doctor gave me sertraline but I took one tablet and felt horrible. My husband and I talked it out and realised through a day of hashing it out it was the breastfeeding driving me loopy. We decided I should pump until I couldn't any more then go to formula if needed. Better that than a mum on anti anxiety meds was the conclusion. As soon as we decided a weight was lifted off me and I slept soundly for the first time in a week.
Only issue is today I have horrible nausea and flu feeling drained which is ruining my feeling better. Does anyone have any experience of these symptoms. I only took one tablet although the side effects were severe! Does anyone know how long the after effects will last. I finally feel emotionally sound and its gutting to feel so drained and queasy. Tia x

How are your breasts feeling? A flu like feeling can be a symptom of mastitis. You could also just be getting a winter virus which is making you feel this way.

I used to take Sertraline but never had any side effects so I can't really help but I also think it unlikely that you'd get symptoms one week after taking one tablet although I may be wrong.

So was it yesterday you took the tablet? I agree keep an eye on mastitis, but assume it's a reaction for another day or two. It did leave me very groggy. What dose was it?

And well done for working out the source of your stress. Sometimes just recognising it makes it better.

Your symptoms won't be from one sertraline tablet... I add another vote to mastitis

Hi,

I took one tablet yesterday. I felt very rapidly horrid and exhausted with lots of side effects hence the long day agonising about resolving it another way. I have just recovered from my second bout of mastitis and agree the symptoms are similar but I don't have any red lumps or pain in the breasts. I saw on the list of withdrawal side effects flu feeling is one for sertaline too. I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience of how long after taking a small dose they felt side effects. Dying to get myself right again!

First time I tried, I took a tablet and felt giddy and all over the place. I didn't take a second as I wouldn't have been able to look after the kids. Luckily a friend was staying that day.

Second time, years later, no small DCs, I think I started on a tiny dose.

I might try taking paracetamol just in case it is mastitis. I guess it's possible. I'm not even finished the last round of antibiotics!

picklemewalnuts how long did you take for the side effects to pass? Then again I'm starting to wonder if you guys are right and it's mastitis again!

You wouldn’t have withdrawal symptoms after one single tablet. I’d be shocked if any of your symptoms are related to that, although I suppose if it was a very large dose maybe. You should call your GP.

If you’re planning to stop breastfeeding please be aware that you’re likely to feel an awful lot worse for a short period after stopping. This is due to a hormone crash and is very common. Just so you’re aware.

What dosage of sertraline did you start on? You should have been prescribed 50mg initially for a week/fortnight and then told to increase afterwards.
