Panic attacks after drinking alcohol

I have just stopped taking sertaline (tapered off slowly) after 3 years and stupidly drank a load of gin and wine last night when I kinda knew I'd get the beer fear.

Back to back panic attacks through the night have left me exhausted and I just want it to be over. Any advice?

Honestly? Don’t drink. Or severely cut down. I was/am like this. The only way to stop it is to not drink any alcohol. Now I only drink with DH at home. If I’m out, I still to alcohol-free beer. As long as I buy it myself, no one questions what I’m drinking.

As for last night, I am sure you didn’t do or say anything that bad when you were drunk. And even if you did, does it really matter? I’m sure the majority of people have made a tit of themselves when they’ve been drunk.

To calm yourself, can you do that five hats thing? I can’t remember what it is exactly, but it’s something like list 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste.

Thanks, I know this is the way to go. I rarely drink so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't miss it.

I didn't do anything particularly daft last night either, I think the panic is over how bad my hangover will be and how I'll cope with my DC (not currently here but coming back after lunch).

I've just booked a swimming session which should help but I just need to get out the door to get there!
